The State Auditor performs an audit when requested by the Legislature, the governing body of an agency, or concerned citizens who usually submit a petition, and if the resources of the Office permit. In order to avoid duplicating the work of the Examiner, these audits are usually compliance (with law) and performance types, although all audits require some analysis of financial data and supporting evidence. The State Auditor also examines accounts of the State Treasurer. This series consists of audits of counties, municipalities and boards and grant programs. They contain exhibits, photocopies of documents, charts, financial statements, recommendations, and statements of possible violations. Included are statement of receipts and disbursements, reconcilement of bank accounts of state depositories, reconcilement of cash on hand and cash deposited with balances as shown by the Comptroller, the amount of securities, and reconcilement of Fiscal Agent's Bond Redemption and Bond Interest Accounts. Audits of the securities held in the Treasurer's vaults and in banks are also detailed in separate reports in later years.
